FaithHouses and Churches have always been a part of the Inge-
glas ornament line, but none quite as famous as this small
chapel where in 1816, the world's most beloved Christmas
song, "Stille Nacht" or "Silent Night" was written by Father
Joseph Mohr. Franz Gruber, Mohr's friend, composed the
music.
"Stille Nacht" was sung in German for the very first time on
Christmas Eve in 1818 in the St. Nikolaus Church, Oberndorf
near Salzburg, Austria. The organ was broken, so the song
was accompanied by guitar. In 1907, St. Nikolaus Church was
damaged in a flood and torn down.
